Gary Dempsey is 3D Environmental Designer and Historical Researcher with RealSim Ltd, a Galway based company specialising in the production of highly realistic interactive and passive 3D simulations of real world environments; which include applications for historical environmental re-construction, marine simulation and urban planning. He is also the current Events Officer with the Virtual Heritage Network: Ireland and co-ordinator of a number of archaeological research project. With a background Heritage Studies (BA. Hons. Galway Mayo Institute of Technology) and Irish Studies (MA Centre for Irish Studies, NUI Galway) he worked as the Education Officer at the archaeological complex of Rathcroghan, Co. Roscommon where he developed a greater interest in 3D recording techniques, Kite Aerial Survey (KAP) and archaeological landscape studies. In 2014 Gary graduated with an MSc. in International Heritage Visualisation from the course at the Digital Design Studio at the Glasgow School of Art, Scotland. In 2015 Gary co-founded the ‘Digital Heritage Age’ a grouping of likeminded individuals who aim to promote best practice in Digital Heritage Projects. The DHA has since completed a number of successful community base digital recording projects including Roscommon3D, Galway3D, and the Rathcroghan Field System Survey an Royal Irish Academy funded research project.
