Achill Archaeological Field School

General Terms and Conditions

  • Achill Archaeological Field School will not accept responsibility for articles lost or stolen while participating in the Field School Courses, Field Trips or Tours.
  • Students are advised to take out their own personal insurance to cover any unforeseen medical expenses and loss or damage to personal items. Students should also ensure that they have a current tetanus vaccination. The school will not be responsible for injuries sustained during field trips, fieldwork, or at any other time while attending the school.
  • For information regarding course fees please check the relevant information below.
  • Cheques (checks) should be made payable to the Achill Archaeological Field School.
  • As all excavations are outdoor projects, the Achill Archaeology Field School is at the mercy of the Irish weather. If it rains hard and continuously and/or there is the possibility of compromising the integrity of the excavation, work on site has to cease. If bad weather continues and disrupts your time on a particular site, we CANNOT offer refunds but we will try to offer excavation or survey work at another site.
  • While the Achill Archaeological Field School aims to ensure that all the details relating to its courses accurately reflect the courses we run, participants are advised to seek confirmation of any specific tuition requirements or course details prior to booking.
  • Notice: Achill Archaeological Field School reserves the right to withdraw, without penalty, any announced program, in which case the student can transfer to a similar course.  Achill Archaeological Field School will not be liable for any costs incurred by a participant in preparation for the trip, including non-refundable or restricted airline tickets. We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance prior to making your travel arrangements or reservations.
  • Achill Archaeological Field School runs a strict recycling and energy saving programme. All participants on AAFS courses are required to participate in terms of minimising waste, recycling all glass and cardboard. Notices providing guidelines for reducing energy consumption are located throughout the AAFS buildings, please adhere to them.
  • Volunteers:
    Applications for volunteers are open to suitably qualified students with preference given to persons with particular skills in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, on-site planning and pottery identification.

Introductory & Specialist Courses – Terms & Conditions

  • €500 Non refundable deposit to be submitted with booking form, preferably via our on-line Credit Card payment system.
  • Cheques should be made payable to: Achill Archaeological Field School.

Trainee Supervisor Courses – Terms & Conditions

Non refundable deposit of €500 to secure a place on this course

  • 50% of fees to be submitted with booking form or by agreed interim installments
  • Cheques should be made payable to: Achill Archaeological Field School.

1-Day Tours – Terms & Conditions

  • 50% of fees to be submitted with booking form, preferably via our on-line Credit Card payment system.
  • Full fees must be received one months prior to commencement of tour.
  • Cheques should be made payable to: Achill Archaeological Field School.
Field School Modular Courses – Terms & Conditions
  • €500 Non refundable deposit to be submitted with booking form, preferably via our on-line Credit Card payment system.
  • Full fees must be received by at least 8 weeks prior to the start of the Module.
  • Cheques should be made payable to: Achill Archaeological Field School.
  • Payment also possible via IBAN – from student’s bank to Field School’s bank.
