Achill Archaeological Field School is located in Dooagh, at the western end of Achill Island, Co. Mayo, on the west coast of Ireland. View our location in the map below, or scroll down the page for information and links for travel and transport providers.
To get to Achill by car, follow the N59 west from Newport to Mulranny and then take the R319 across the Currane Peninsula to Achill Sound and onwards across Achill to the village of Dooagh. The Field School is the first two-storey structure on the left after you cross the narrow bridge in the centre of Dooagh.
To get to Achill by public transport, take a train or bus to Westport and then take Bus Eireann (Route 440) from Westport to Achill.
Flying into Dublin?
To get from Dublin airport to Co. Mayo you can take train, bus or coach services:
Train services run from Dublin Heuston station to Westport. To get to Dublin Heuston railway station from Dublin airport, take the 747 bus service from Dublin Bus. To get from Heuston to Westport, use the Irish Rail service.
Coach services run from Dublin airport to Galway (GoBus) or the national bus service Bus Éireann operates from Dublin city centre (Busáras / central bus station) to Westport. The 747 bus service goes from Dublin airport to Busáras.

Overseas students enrolled in our Modular Courses are advised that when booking their flight to Dublin Airport please ensure they arrive early enough (8 – 9 am, local time) to catch the 12.30pm train from Heuston Station in Dublin city station. Take the train from Dublin to Westport, Co. Mayo, where the Field School bus will collect students from the train station and bring them to Achill and the Field School. A member of staff will be on hand in Dooagh to greet you.
